It depends on how the glass is supported. For furniture protectors (where the glass sits directly on a solid wooden or metal surface), 4mm or 6mm is the standard.

Or, for structural tops where the glass sits on a frame without support underneath (or where there’s overhang), 10mm or thicker should provide extra rigidity.

Our tempered glass table tops have much higher resistance to thermal stress than standard annealed glass – that’s because they’ve been professionally toughened, so they aren’t damaged by hot mugs, teapots, or warm dinner plates.
